28.1.2012 21:05:55
Dmitrik showed that he is up for just about any challenge. Jumping alone at a world record 2.41m height, and after two mediocre attempts, the St. Petersburger came oh so close to breaking Javier Sotomayor's 2.40 standard which has stood for almost 23 years. A great ending to an exciting evening which saw an extraordinarily deep competition field.
28.1.2012 20:53:19
In dramatic fashion, Daegu silver winner Aleksey Dmitrik attacked 2.35m successfully on his third attempt to dispatch his two rivals, Ivan Ukhov and Jarda Baba. It was the world's best result of the season, improving on the 2.34 by Britain's Robbie Grabarz. It was also Dmitrik's indoor personal best. Silnov took second by virtue of his first-attempt 2.31 jump, as Oni and Ukhov tied for third, also at 2.31. Dmitrik will now try for a new world record of 2.41.
28.1.2012 20:39:26
The three podium claimants became known at 2.33m, as Silnov and Oni departed, the latter only after an excellent third attempt. Baba and Ukhov passed 2.33, leaving Dmitrik to move solidly to the front with a second-jump success. Next height: 2.35m.
28.1.2012 20:30:08
Five of the six jumpers moved on to 2.33m, as Horak was the only casualty at 2.31m. Dmitrik kept his record perfect with a first-jump success, as Silnov did likewise. Oni and Ukhov needed two tries, and Baba received mega-cheers when the bar stayed fixed on his third try.
28.1.2012 20:19:13
Six jumpers emerged from 2.28m to move on to 2.31m. Five cleared 2.28m, with Ukhov advancing through a pass. Horak brought the biggest noise of the night with a first-jump clearance, which was matched by Oni on the very next attempt. Baba and Dmitrik also were perfect at this height with the Russian having the only blemish-free card of the competition at this point. Silnov sneaked through on a third-attempt success after two less-than-stellar jumps which failed. Moving to the sideline here were Moffatt, Baniotis, Barry, and Hondrokoukis.
28.1.2012 19:58:02
All ten jumpers survived 2.24m, but in different ways. Russians Ivan Ukhov, Andrey Silnov, and Aleksey Dmitrik joined Greece's Kostadinos Baniotis and Dimitrios Hondrokoukis with first-jump successes. Czech Jaroslav Baba, Bahamas' Trevor Barry, Britain's Samson Oni and American Keith Moffat needed two jumps, while Slovak Peter Horak went to the limit and cleared on his third. A good early-season high jump is developing with ten competitors heading to 2.28m.
28.1.2012 19:42:07
Jumping at 2.20m eliminated no competitors. Keith Moffatt went to the limit and cleared on his second (and final) attempt, while the other nine saw their initial jumps bring success. Onward to 2.24m, still with ten jumpers in contention.
28.1.2012 19:29:34
All jumpers entered the action at 2.15m, and nine of the eleven had first-attempt successes. At the other end of the scale, France's Abdoulame Diarra exited with three misses while American Keith Moffatt prolonged his life by passing his last two attempts at 2.20m. Ten jumpers remain at 2.20m.
28.1.2012 19:19:01
Darwin Edwards of St. Lucia was the only casualty at the opening 2.10m height. A bit of comic flair came from Russia's Ivan Ukhov, who attempted (unsuccessfully) to 'scissor' the opening height. Never without a sense of humor, Ukhov was laughing perhaps harder than anyone else in the hall as he exited the pit. He then passed his remaining attempts at 2.10m. Next height is 2.15m.
28.1.2012 18:26:45
It was a narrow miss for Sveta Shkolina on her third attempt at 2.00, which would have equalled her indoor personal best, but for late January she must be satisfied with the effort and with her victory here in Hustopece.
28.1.2012 18:17:40
The jump by Shkolina held up as the winner, as the others could not achieve 1.95m. Next height for the Russian will be 2.00m, which would equal her indoor personal best.
28.1.2012 18:11:01
Opening misses by Aitova, Petre and Howard-Lowe opened the door for Shkolina who skimmed over 1.95m to take the lead as jumping continues at that height.
28.1.2012 18:07:10
All four jumpers negotiated 1.93m but with varying degrees of success. Howard-Lowe, Gordeyeva, and Shkolina kept their day's records clean with first-jump successes, while Kuchina stayed alive only by virtue of a determined third-attempt clearance. Next up: 1.95m.
28.1.2012 17:59:01
Four jumpers--Kuchina, Howard-Lowe, Gordeyeva, and Shkolina--registered opening-jump clearances at 1.90m, and they turned out to be the only competitors to advance to the next height (1.93m). Exiting the competition with three failures were Maresova, Aitova, and Petre.
28.1.2012 17:49:00
First-jump successes were recorded at 1.87m by Petre, Howard-Lowe, Gordyeva (the most space of any jump), and Shkolina. Aitova and Kuchina needed two, while Maresova brought the Czech crowd out of their seats as she stayed alive with a third-jump clearance. Like Friedrich, Simic retired at this height with three misses. Seven remain alive as the bar goes to 1.90m
28.1.2012 17:47:09
Ariane Friedrich's comeback ended at 1.87m today, although her third attempt had merit. After seemingly clearing the height, a trailing heel clipped the bar off as she retired with a 1.87m best.
28.1.2012 17:37:14
Irina Gordeyeva and Svetlana Shkolina, both of Russia, opened their day at 1.84m with first-jump clearances, as Simic, Maresova, Aitova, Howard-Lowe and Kuchina likewise needed only one try. Petre recovered from a first-try miss with success on her second, while Ogrodnik found the height out of reach and departed.
28.1.2012 17:31:44
The hall became absolutely quiet as Germany's Ariane Friedrich took her first competitive jump in 16 months. At 1.84m, the lilac-haired jumper just nicked the bar for a miss. The crowd then erupted as her second jump was a success.
28.1.2012 17:23:37
As jumping at 1.80m winds down, Patterson and Forrester drop out with three misses. Esthera Petre of Romania recovers after an opening miss to find success on her second attempt, while Maresova, Kuchina, Marina Aitova of Kazakhstan, and American Chaunte Howard Lowe score first-attempt clearances. The next height is 1.84m.
28.1.2012 17:14:01
Ogrodnik opened the jumping at 1.80m with a success. Ana Simic of Croatia followed suit, before Liz Patterson registered her first miss.
28.1.2012 17:11:10
Long-time indoor circuit participant Nicole Forrester of Canada, Oldriska Maresova of the host Czech Republic, and Mariya Kuchina of Russia all easily cleared the opening height. Ogrodnik followed suit on her second jump, as the field goes to 1.80 with no casualties.
28.1.2012 17:07:46
American Liz Patterson is the first to clear 1.75 with an easy jump.
28.1.2012 17:06:46
Magdalena Ogrodnik of Poland starts the competition with a miss at the opening 1.75m height.
28.1.2012 17:05:47
The assembled competitors are being presented with gifts by 1997 world triple jump champion Sarka Kasparkova, herself a 1.95 high jumper.
28.1.2012 17:00:47
The cozy City Sports Hall in the south Moravian city of Hustopece is filled to capacity on this sunny, cold afternoon. The competition is almost ready to begin as the women jumpers are introduced.
